Photograph of a Weddell seal lying in the centre of the foreground surrounded by snow and ice. This is a peaceful and contemplative scene, showing a Weddell seal basking in the sunlight. These seals are not usually found alone, as they live in groups on the ice. They are, however, easily approached by humans as they are naturally gentle and unthreatened by the presence of man.
