Bell push 1896 - 1903
Nephrite, three-colour gold, guilloché enamel, moonstone | 3.9 x 5.8 x 5.3 cm (whole object) | RCIN 23190
-
Bell push, circular, nephrite mounted with cabochon moonstone press button on gadrooned pad of red and white guilloché enamel above laurel wreath border. Side encircled by three-colour gold swags, hung from diamond points; on three gold gadrooned bun feet.
This elaborately decorated bell push appears to have once formed part of a large desk set. Designs for the entire set — which included a calendar frame, desk pad, blotter, gum pot, photograph frame, inkwell, candlestick, pen tray, seal and pen holder, as well as the bell push — were sold at Christie’s in 1989. The bell push is the only piece from the desk set in the Royal Collection. The whereabouts of the other components is unknown.
Mark of Michael Perchin; gold mark of 56 zolotniks (1896-1908); Fabergé in Cyrillic characters
