A group photograph taken at Sheen House, Richmond in June 1889, of Queen Mary (1867-1953) when Princess Victoria Mary of Teck with Princess Hélène of Orléans (1871-1951) and her cousin Princess Marguerite d'Orleans (1869-1940), standing together on the terrace next to a pillar. The names, location and date is written underneath. The name of the photographer, 'The Duc de Chartres' (Marguerite's father), is written in the lower right corner of the photograph by Queen Mary. She appears to be wearing mourning dress, possibly for her grandmother the Duchess of Cambridge who died on 6 April 1889.
At one point, Prince Albert Victor was in love with Princess Hélène but as her family were catholic, the marriage was not encouraged. Prince Philippe d'Orleans, Count of Paris and his family were living at Sheen House, which was close to White Lodge in Richmond, where the Teck family lived -
