Full-length group portrait showing Queen Victoria, seated and facing the viewer, holding the baby Prince Edward of York (future King Edward VIII and later Duke of Windsor). Directly behind the Queen stands Princess Mary of Cornwall and York (later Queen Mary), also facing the viewer, and on her left stands Princess Alexandra of Wales (later Queen Alexandra). The photograph was taken at White Lodge and it has been signed and dated by the sitters at the bottom. On July 16th 1894, the day the photograph was taken, Queen Victoria wrote in her journal: 'The child was very good... there was an absence of all music which I thought a pity... I had tea with May and after which were photographed, I holding the baby on my lap.'
