Rectangular frame of silver gilt, striped vertically with blue and red guilloché enamel edges and bezel in two-colour gold and set with moonstones. Inset with a photograph of Persimmon facing right.
Enamelled in the racing colours of King Edward VII, this frame contains a photograph of the King’s most successful racehorse, Persimmon. The horse was also immortalised in Fabergé’s silver model, included by the King in the Sandringham commission of 1907 for which the horses, dogs and other animals found on the estate were modelled from life and carved in a selection of hardstones. The idea of personalising the colours of frames and other objects was taken up by Leopold de Rothschild who, like the King, had a portrait of his racehorse St Frusquin modelled in silver.
Mark of Henrik Wigström; gold mark of 56 zolotniks and silver mark of 91 zolotniks (1908-17); Fabergé in Cyrillic characters
