Fabergé occasionally used non-precious metals for certain objects, such as this match case made of gunmetal. The application of rococo scrolls in two-colour gold results in a far from mundane object. A cigarette case of similar design is in the State Hermitage Museum, St Petersburg.
Mark of Michael Perchin; gold mark of 56 zolotniks (before 1896)
Text adapted from Fabergé in the Royal CollectionProvenance
Probably acquired by the Prince of Wales (later King Edward VII)
