Contemporary red goatskin binding, with gold-tooling on both sides and the spine. Design identical on both sides: outer double fillet border; inner border formed of one single and one double fillet; in the inner corners of the outer border, the crowned monogram of William III (interlaced ‘W’ ‘R’); in the outer corners of the inner border, the same crowned monogram, this time larger; in the inner corners of the inner border, a swirl and flower tool. In the centre, the arms of William III and Mary II (England, France, Scotland and Ireland quartered on an escutcheon of pretence billetty a lion rampant [Nassau]), surrounded by the garter and surmounted by a crown. Flower and zig-zag roll on the sides and inside of both boards. Spine divided into seven compartments by raised bands. In the centre of every compartment, the crowned monogram of William III, identical to that used on the inner corners of the outer border on both sides, surrounded by a double fillet border and a swirl and flower tool identical to that used on the sides in each corner of the compartment.
