This album contains patterns of the facings and button-hole lacings for the seventy Foot Regiments of 1768, mounted on linen sheets. These are bound up with typescript lists of the colours of facings recorded in documents at the War Office, researched in 1911 by John ffoulkes of St John’s College, Oxford, almost certainly at the behest of the Hon. John Fortescue, then Librarian. It is likely that up to that point the facing patterns had been kept in a bundle rather than in a bound volume.
