The Queen’s Gallery, Buckingham Palace Amazing Rare Things: The Art of Natural History in the Age of Discovery 14 March - 28 September 2008 This extraordinary exhibition, recently shown at The Queen’s Gallery in Edinburgh, is selected from the collections of the Royal Library in collaboration with the distinguished naturalist and broadcaster Sir David Attenborough. It brings together the works of four artists and a collector who have shaped our knowledge of the world around us. Leonardo da Vinci, Cassiano dal Pozzo, Alexander Marshal, Maria Sibylla Merian and Mark Catesby are diverse figures who shared a passion for enquiry and a fascination with the beautiful and bizarre in nature. All lived at a time when new species were being discovered around the world in ever increasing numbers.

HRH The Prince of Wales: An Exhibition to Celebrate his Sixtieth Birthday

The Drawings Gallery, Windsor Castle 16 May 2008 – 22 February 2009 To celebrate the 60th birthday of His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales in 2008, a special exhibition will be shown at Windsor Castle, the royal home where The Prince spent much of his childhood. Photographs from the Royal Photograph Collection will document major public and family events in His Royal Highness’s life – his Investiture as Prince of Wales in 1969, marriage to Lady Diana Spencer in 1981, the births of Princes William and Harry, and his marriage to the Duchess of Cornwall in 2005, while works of art and memorabilia selected from the Royal Collection and from The Prince’s own personal archive will reflect many of His Royal Highness’s lifelong interests.

Touring exhibition of Leonardo drawings to celebrate the 60th birthday of His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales

Among the many choices on offer in their groups brochure for 2008 are Private Guided Tours of the State Rooms at Buckingham Palace, available for the very first time in March and April, when Her Majesty The Queen is in residence at Sandringham and Windsor.

Enjoy Christmas at Windsor Castle

This Christmas, visitors can soak up the atmosphere at Windsor Castle as it celebrates the season with traditional decorations and festive fare. From 14 December until 7 January, Queen Victoria’s spectacular dinner service will form the centrepiece of a dazzling display of 19th-century silver on the 50-foot-long dining table in the Waterloo Chamber. Queen Victoria and Prince Albert spent many holidays at Windsor and on Christmas Day would hold a lavish feast - a visitor to the royal kitchens in 1860 described seeing at least 50 turkeys and a 350 lb baron of beef roasting at the fires.
