Annual Openings of Frogmore House, Garden and Mausoleum

Her Majesty The Queen acquires study for Annigoni portrait

The Queen has acquired a finished study by Pietro Annigoni (1910-1988) for the artist’s 1969 portrait of Her Majesty in the National Portrait Gallery.  The head-and-shoulders work in oil distemper and pastel (60 cm x 40 cm) was produced in the course of a number of sittings at Buckingham Palace. Annigoni took the study to his studio in Florence  and  used it as a model when working on the full-length portrait,  in which Her Majesty wears the robes and insignia of the Order of the British Empire. ... Mary, Queen of Scots’ Chambers and the ‘Darnley Rooms’, the historic heart of the Palace of Holyroodhouse, will reopen to the public in time for the Christmas holidays.
