Her Majesty The Queen acquires study for Annigoni portrait

The Queen has acquired a finished study by Pietro Annigoni (1910-1988) for the artist’s 1969 portrait of Her Majesty in the National Portrait Gallery.  The head-and-shoulders work in oil distemper and pastel (60 cm x 40 cm) was produced in the course of a number of sittings at Buckingham Palace. Annigoni took the study to his studio in Florence  and  used it as a model when working on the full-length portrait,  in which Her Majesty wears the robes and insignia of the Order of the British Empire. ... Mary, Queen of Scots’ Chambers and the ‘Darnley Rooms’, the historic heart of the Palace of Holyroodhouse, will reopen to the public in time for the Christmas holidays. The Palace was home to Mary following her return from France in 1561 and was the setting for many dramatic episodes in her short and turbulent reign (1542-67). She married Henry Stuart, Lord Darnley, at Holyrood in 1565 and the following year witnessed the brutal murder of her Italian secretary, David Rizzio, by her husband. ... The Queen's dolls go on display

Dolls given to Her Majesty The Queen throughout her life will be shown at Frogmore House near Windsor Castle from 16 May.  The centrepiece of the display is a charming doll presented in 1930 and played with by Princess Elizabeth when she was very young.
